Irma Escontrias Sanchez was the first person in her family to attain a college degree. Irma graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Irma taught for twenty nine years before retiring.  She enjoyed her journey as a Reading teacher for Ysleta Middle School, V.W. Miller Intermediate, Valley View Middle School and Desert View Middle School. She then worked as an ESL teacher at Desert View Middle School. Irma ended her teaching career at Desert View Middle School as an AVID Coordinator. In 2010, Desert View Middle School became a National AVID Demonstration School through the hard work of the entire staff and faculty.

Irma has been bestowed the honor of Teacher of the Year at Valley View Middle School as well as Teacher of the Year twice at Desert View Middle School. She also made the Top Ten Teacher of the Year finalist list for the Ysleta Independent School District and was recognized by The El Paso County Council IRA by being awarded the Outstanding Teacher of Reading Award. In 2014, she was bestowed the honor of receiving the BEEMS Bilingual Advocate of the Year award.

Irma has a wonderful husband, Jaime Sanchez, who has supported Irma in everything she has wanted to do throughout her life. Irma also has two children, Cassandra and Jaime, who have made her a proud Mother.  Irma wanted Cassie and Jaime to know about their amazing family history so she wrote "The Escontrias Family Legacy:  A Very Personal Journey." Irma currently works as a Book Representative for Opal Booz & Associates, a consultant for Renaissance Learning, Inc. , and conducts author visits in schools.
Irma is busy working on her second book.

Irma hopes that this book will inspire everyone to write their own life story.
